Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, many foreigners have expressed a desire to help Ukraine. There were problems with the possibility of living in the country and obtaining citizenship.
Only a year later, January 12, 2023, changes were made to the Law of Ukraine “On the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons”:
“- foreigners who, in accordance with the established procedure, have concluded a contract for military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are considered legally temporarily residing on the territory of Ukraine for the period of validity of the contract for military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Temporary residence on the territory of Ukraine of such foreigners is confirmed by a military ID of privates, sergeants and petty officers."
However, such changes in the legislation did not solve the problem of obtaining citizenship.
The State Migration Service of Ukraine can help in such cases. Foreigners or stateless persons who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine can apply for citizenship, as well as immigration permits. The letter must include your full name, residential address, email address and signature.
