Foreigners who have joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine have the opportunity to obtain an immigration permit to Ukraine after the expiry of their contract. According to Ukrainian law, foreign citizens or stateless persons who have signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and participated in the defence of the state have the right to reside legally in Ukraine. However, after the expiry of the contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a foreigner must have legal grounds and obtain a residence permit to continue staying in Ukraine.

Ways for foreigners after completing a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine:

In general, after the end of the contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, foreigners can choose one of two ways:

  1. Extension of service: Foreigners can extend the term of their contract and, accordingly, continue their service in the Armed Forces. This is a direct way to obtain Ukrainian citizenship.
  2. Immigration to Ukraine: Another alternative is to apply for immigration to Ukraine.

According to part two of Article 4 of the Law "On Migration", a quota-based migration permit may be granted to persons who served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other services, as well as to those who were declared unfit for military service for medical reasons.

The procedure for obtaining an immigration permit:

  1. Collecting the necessary documents.
  2. Contact the territorial unit of the State Migration Service of Ukraine at the place of residence.
  3. Obtaining a decision after consideration of the application.

An application for an immigration permit and the required documents can be submitted in person or through a legal representative.
