The entry of Georgian citizens to Ukraine is regulated by a visa-free regime, but there are cases when they need to apply for a visa. Despite the martial law, migration legislation and rules for entering Ukraine remain unchanged, and land borders are operating as usual. The conditions for entering the country are the same for Ukrainians and foreigners, while the closed airspace creates certain complications for travellers.
According to the administration of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, over 1.3 million foreigners visited the country in the first 8 months of 2023, of whom 6,197 were Georgian citizens. This number of foreign visitors continues to grow, taking into account previous years.
Despite the military risks, Ukrainian culture and nature attract travellers. The majority of foreigners come to Ukraine for various private reasons, such as tourism, visiting relatives, diplomatic missions or volunteering.
As for the entry of Georgian citizens to Ukraine, there is a visa-free regime between the two countries for tourism, visits and other short-term travel. However, it is important to note that employment and study on the basis of the visa-free regime are prohibited.
Citizens of Georgia have the right to cross the border of Ukraine if they have an ID card or a foreign passport. In addition, they must have a health insurance policy, confirmation of the purpose of the trip, sufficient financial security and no decision to ban them from entering Ukraine.
To enter Ukraine, Georgian citizens must present documents such as invitations from Ukrainian citizens (relatives, friends), confirmation of tour or accommodation booking, or documents confirming medical or business purposes of the visit.
