At first glance, the loss of a marriage certificate does not have the same significance as a passport or driver's license.  But in practice, the loss, damage or theft of a marriage registration certificate can create a number of obstacles in the execution of many other documents.  If, for example, you are planning to sell property that you acquired during marriage, you are planning to purchase property, apply for a residence permit in another country or citizenship, divorce, issue an inheritance and many other state procedures, in all these cases you will be asked for this document.

The procedure for restoring a marriage certificate during martial law is no different from what it was before the Russian aggression.  Of course, if you lost your certificate in the occupied territory of the Russian Federation, then it will not be restored to you there.  But if you are in the controlled part of Ukraine and you have a passport and a code, then you can contact the nearest department of the Civil Registry Office.  If this is the department where you legalised the marriage, this will reduce the time of receipt.  Since, according to the instructions, the inspector of the Civil Registry Office, after applying for a duplicate of the marriage certificate, is obliged to check the availability of an act record - the primary record made on the day of registration of the marriage, on the basis of which both spouses were issued copies of certificates of registration of the family union.  In order to independently restore a marriage certificate, you must provide the following documents:

 • Passports of both spouses with a marriage mark.  One of the couple can also apply, having the opportunity to provide the passport data of the wife / husband.

 • Receipt of payment of the state duty for obtaining a duplicate of the document.

 • Application for a duplicate marriage certificate.

Provided that you submit an application for a duplicate marriage certificate to the registry office in which it was registered, the document can be made in a day.  If you apply to the Civil Registry Office at the place of residence, the waiting time can be increased up to 3 days.

It should also be mentioned that a duplicate can only be issued with a valid marriage.  Otherwise, you will be issued a certificate with the relevant information.
